Hat frame (Costume - Hats)  Description:  One small hat frame for over a chignon, black; originally decorated, now plain.

8/11/93, IBM: Black metal frame is covered with black silk taffeta and lined in brown.  The frame may or may not have been decorated originally.  The holes in the fabric which lead me to believe that nineteen years ago, might have been made by pins, holding the frame in place against the head.  Also, fresh flowers might have been temporarily pinned in place.  Ribbons or pieces of lace might have been pinned in place for a one time wearing.  It might also have religious significance.
