From the History Information Station: Object: Lucky Strike cigarettes. History: "Lucky Strike Means Fine Tobacco" was a familiar advertising jingle of the 1940s. Lucky Strikes were distributed to U.S. troops, and became known all over the world as a symbol of the U.S. military. This green cigarette package was one of the last available. "Lucky Strike green went to war" in 1942, according to the popular slogan. The green paper dye contained a lot of chromium, which was put to better use in war factories than in Lucky Strikes. So the familiar green package turned white, and remains white to this day. Museum Collection
