History of Fremont High School (P.Lau, 8/2002) Fremont High School, located at Foothill Blvd, between High St, and 47th Ave, was built in 1889. Originally the school, starting with sixty students, was called Union High School Number Four. About 1906, the name was changed to Fremont High school in honor of John C. Fremont, who served as the first principle from 1890 to his death at 1904. In March 23, 1930, the front part of Fremont High School was destroyed by an arsonist who threw a gasoline bomb that ignited the building. On April 19, 1932, the school was reopened. In the 1970s, Fremont was damaged by an earthquake, but in 1973 the school once again rose from the rubble.
