The front of the matchbook features the architectural front of "Bernstein's Fish Grotto" which look like the bow of a ship (jutting out over the sidewalk). "123 Powell St." The Top reads: "In San Francisco 123 Powell St., in Los Angeles, 424 W. 6th St." The back features a fish and a shell fish "Our famous Coo-Coo Cocktails, 123 Powell St." The printing on the inside is done in a horitonatl format and reads: "Meet the BIG 4, Mr. Lobster, Mr. Crab, Mr. Clam, Mr. Oyster at Bernstein's Fish Grotto." Each of the four characters listed above is illustrated.

The "BIG 4" may be a play on words, referring to the "Big 4" of California railroading.
