Betsy Willcuts, July 2002 Bibliography: THE HEART OF OAKLAND, A Walking Guide to Lake Merritt by Leslie Flint, Sponsored by the Camron-Stanford House Preservation Association Adams Point was land originally owned by Edson Adams, who along with Carpentier and Moon, was responsible for incorporating the original town of Oakland. In 1909, the city voted to purchase 45 acres of that land between the two arms of the lake. Over 80 varieties of trees, shrubs and plants can be found in Lakeside Park. The neighborhood above Grand Avenue is part of the 200 acre Adams Point real estate development of the early 1900s. Many of the large and expensive homes have been replaced with apartment and commercial buildings.
