Many people came from houses without electricity, and many had wood or coal burning stoves before moving into federal housing. But in their new electrified apartments, with modern appliances, and with the income from new jobs in shipyards and factories, Hunter's Point dwellers for the first time had access to many of the "conveniences" of modern life.
