dress. Description: red and white checked wool dress, long sleeves and jewel neckline are all edged with a tiny ruffle of self-same fabric; dress is decorated down the front with six, small white buttons and placket is edged on either side with a ruffle; dress fastens down the back with a red zipper, decorative sash belt fastens in a bow at the front. Short skirt, lightly gathered. Villager label at the nape. a: dress; b: belt. Dimensions: size 14 a: 15-1/4" across the shoulders; 17" nape to wasit; 38-1/4" nape to hem. b: 81-1/2" x 1". History: Hjordis purchased this dress at Capwell's in 1968. When the Oakland Museum started having programs in the Museum On Wheels, Hjordis wore the dress for publicity photographs as the first History Docent Chairman. She was born c.1932-33.
