Dress-Cotton fabric woven in a red, navy, blue, gold, and white plaid pattern. The dress has straight sleeves, a round neck, and a drop waist. The material below the waist is gathered. Where it is joined to the waist, the top of it has been left on the outside of the dress. The round neckline has a short piece of fabric which extends below it and is gathered. The neckline and top of this fabric are covered with lace. The ends of the sleeves are also trimmed with lace. There is a slit down the center back from the neckline to the waist. On the left side of the center are two button holes, one just below the neck, and one at the center of the back. At the other side of the slit, at corresponding places, are two different buttons. Each button is indented at the center and has four holes. Sewing has been done by both machine and by hand. Ankle length. Dimensions: 8" from neck to hem, 4 1/2" from shoulder to shoulder. Remarks/References: The donor is the daughter-in-law of Emma Morgan North, the sister of architect Julia Morgan. (J.Hnadley, 1991) Doll is probably by Bru, but is unmarked. It appears to be like those marked "Brevette", an earlier typemade by the Bru firm. The face, body and hands are all Bru characteristics.
