Tool. Description: pick, metal head with wood handle; head shows less wear than one might expect, fitted to handle with a leather gasket at the top of handle fitting into inside of pick head, with Tang type attachment. Dimensions: pick head 25" x 1-1/2", handled added to pick head 35 7/8" long. History: Found in the Mother Lode of California. References/Remarks: handle is probably of hickory. (Norm Wilson, 5/97) The tang-type attachement of the head to the handle is a style originally developed in Germany.
