Expresso Machine. Description: "La Pavoni" expresso machine, manufactured by La Pavoni S.p.A. of Milan, Italy. Appears to have originally been fueled by natural gas or other liquid fuel, later modified in this country for electric operation. Plated metal construction, with bakelite knobs and fittings, and glass guages. Condition 3. Dimensions: 33 1/2" H x 24"D x 30"W (all dimensions maximum, with attatchments to machine). History: See donor file. From the History Information Station: Object: Espresso machine, "La Pavoni," made in Milan, Italy. History: Drinking strong coffee, and lots of it, has been a trademark pastime of rebellious young artists for at least two hundred years. The many Italian cafes in North Beach supplied residents with their required daily supplement in the form of exotic espresso, which had not yet reached the popular market.
