Painting. Description: "The Beatnik Family". Caricature of adult man and woman, and a boy and girl. Polychrome watercolor, tempera and ink on paper. The figures of the man and woman were painted separately, cut out, and pasted onto the present work. By C. Saindon. Has been professionally framed in black woof half-round wood 1/2" x 1/2", overmatted with white mat board, and glazed. Condition of painting, 2; some chemical burning in immediate vicinity of overmat. Condition of frame, 3; somewhat scuffed, esp. at corners. Dimensions: 11" x 16" image in 16" x 20-3/4" frame. From the History Information Station: Object: Watercolor, by C. Saindon, 1958. History: This caricature was exhibited at Cafe Vesuvio, a popular bohemian hangout. It shows a North Beach beatnik family with the typical beatnik look. Even the dog has dark glasses and a beard. Museum Purchase
