The railroad lantern has a vented top with wide collar,a large wire wrapped bail handle and wide circular wire base to provide stability. The glass chimney has S.P.Co. molded into the center. The kerosene container is removable and is fastened with a pin and clip. The container is filled by pulling off the wick holder top piece. It was acquired by Alvin Horton who worked for the Ocean Shore Railroad in San Francisco as a young adult. He was born in San Francisco in 1879 and was the father oif the donor. The Railroad was destroyed in the earthquake of 1906, the Horton family then moved to Oakland where Alvin became a realtor.
