1937
Gift of Paul C. & Elaine Ingle
H94.29.3

This shirt was worn by the donor (Paul C. Ingle) when he rode for Wildwood Stables in Oakland, in the official parade to celebrate the opening of the Oakland San Francisco Bay Bridge in 1937. Wildwood Stables, owned by Ben and Margaret Jones, was located on 35th Avenue below Skyline Blvd. ("JB" was the Ben Jones brand.) The raglan sleeve back seams, the collar, as well as the pockets and the front placket are all piped in black satin. The donor feels that his shirt was not stitched with lettering for the Wildwood Stables of Oakland because such stitching was expensive at the time, and during the Depression he couldn't afford it.
