Marcus Foster was the Superintendent of the Oakland Public Schools. He had been a school administrator in Philadelphia and became the first African American superintendent in Oakland. Foster was murdered by the Symbionese Liberation Army in November 1973. (same as label text). This photo was not used in the Oakland Tribune.
