Abbott, accused of the kidnapping and murder of 14 year-old Stephanie Bryan. From Nov. 7 until Nov. 15, the trial was occupied with selection of the jury. Here, Burton Abbott is enjoying a cigarette during a recess in the proceedings. He is standing in the special stairwell that is adjacent to the courtroom (and which leads to the jail) with Deputy Sheriff Vernon Asten, his guard.
