First day of the trial of Burton W. Abbott, accused of the kidnapping and murder of 14 year-old Stephanie Bryan. From Nov. 7 until Nov. 15, the trial was occupied with selection of the jury. This negative evidently shows a group of twelve tentative jurors. A similar image was published in the November 8, 1955, Oakland Tribune. The jurors are, from left to right, bottom row to top: Carol Arata, Mila E. Harper, Mary E. Walls, Kenneth R. Hilgedick, James F. Jensen, Mary Altomare, Mary E. Mattoon, Eugene M. Shortt, Thomas P. Byrnes, Antonio Nelson, Mary J. Meyers, Paul Harriott. Evidently these are not the final jurors, only a tentative grouping.
