Clipping on the back from the Tribune, July 16, 1937- "The broad, rolling Pacific hides the fate of these two women fliers, Amelia Earhart (left) and Mildred Doran. Miss Earhart was lost two weeks ago while on a flight from Lae, New Guinea, to Howland Island, as part of her around the world hop. A vast sea and air search by the Navy and Coast Guard has failed to reveal a trace of Miss Earhart or her navigator, Frederick J. Noonan, veteran Oakland airman. Miss Doran, a Michigan school teacher and flying enthusiast, was lost when she took off from Oakland in the Dole Race to Hawaii 10 years ago." Photo is a portrait of Doran wearing a very natty military styled suit with pins on the pocket and a belt running from her right shoulder to her waist over her wool jacket, a necktie and blouse are underneath the jacket. she has what appears to be a leather hat tucked under her left arm and is holding a small box in her hands. See H96.1.1864 for information on the Dole Race and on the "Miss Doran."
