Handwritten in black pen on the back, "1927 Dole Race Goddard monoplane 'El Encanto' crashed on takeoff." Photo shows the "El Encanto" either coming in for a landing or taking off. The plane is very close to the ground but it appears to be landing, possibly when they first arrived at the Oakland Airport for the race. A crowd of people are standing in the background by two wood buildings and another parked plane, watching the landing. Rows of cars are parked some distance away as well.
