Clipping on the back, Oct. 5, 1931--"ALL SET FOR FASTEST COAST FLIGHT An attempt to fly the Pacific coast airway between Oakland and Los Angeles faster than it has ever been flown before will be made this week by Franklin Rose, veteran Oakland pilot and air transport company head. Rose will fly the high-speed Lockheed transport see below." Photo shows the plane sitting on a runway. Written on the underside of the plane is "Varney" which stood for Varney Air Lines or Varney Speed Lines which was an airmail express company that operated mostly in the northwest.
