Clipping that goes with the image, Feb. 1931-- "OAKLAND AIRPORT--'WITHOUT A PEER IN THE NATION'- Oakland municipal airport, developed at a cost of more than $1,500,000, is today officially rated by the federal aeronautics branch as an A-1-A airport, the finest in the nation. This rating, the highest issued by the department of commerce, signifies that the field and its facilities for both day and night flying meet the department's exacting requirements. The aerial view of Oakland airport below shows the landing field, its operations area, field equipment and aids to air navigation. The major landing area comprises 260 acres while the total airport acreage totals 848 acres.
