Tribune caption on the back, Nov. 20, 1963- "LOOKING SOUTH ON THE WASHINTON MALL- An expanse of green stretches down Washington from 13th Street (foreground), from the newly planted trees and shrubs between 9th and 14th Streets. The mall provides twice as much space for walkers and half as much for cars along the stretch. Extra lights shown about halfway down on streetlight poles and submerged floodlights give a light, open effect at night. Planners hope owners will streamline their individual buildings now." Photo shows Washington St. with the various stores down the left side including: Lewis Shoe Co., Dr. Andrews Credit Dentist, and J.C. Penney's. A bus, several trucks and cars are driving down the street.
