Clipping on the back reads, "The camera's lens aims south on Broadway and records one of the many flareups in front of Hastings' store, scene of most of the activity on the first morning of the massive work stoppage. Pickets, strike sympathizers and curious spectators make up the milling throung.-Tribune photo. Dec 5, 1946." Photo shows the street in front of Hastings where a very large crowd of people has gathered in the street, blocking one side of the street so that cars could not get through. A traffic jam on the opposite side of the street has also been caused by the strikers. Several buses are parked as are cars in the middle of the street and at the sidewalks. Christmas decorations strung across the street with garland and wreaths. Next to Hastings is Roos Brothers store, and further down the street is Florsheim Shoes. The crowd appears to be predominately male.
