Handwritten on the back of the photo in red pencil, "Crew aboard W.S.S. huston saluting arrival Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt at Oakland pier. 7/14/38." Photo shows a ship at dock with the gang blank lower to the dock. Standing around the gang plank is a small contingent of sailors and officers all standing at attention, saluting. Behind the sailors in the shadow of the ship is a band. Further back along the ship are more sailors standing in a line at the railing of the ship. On the top deck of the ship are several airplanes (water planes).
