Baby blue shoulder bag, made of basket weave cotton. The bag is lined with natural colored cotton plain weave, with a band of blue at the inside top and a zipper compartment set in at one side. The bag is richly embroidered, front, back and the shoulder strap. Many tassels decorate the bag, front and back, held in place with a combination of beads, some black, some white, some blue. There are two pompons at the bottom edge of the bad, one multi-colored of red, yellow, green, white and blue, the other of all red. This cloth bag was embroidered and made by the donor, Meuy Yaan Saeteurn, while she lived in Laos, before 1985. She came to California from a Thailand Refugee Camp in 1985. She learned to embroider from her mother, from her grandmother and from friends. The donor said that she sometimes used this bag to carry books to school where she learned to speak English.
