V, 1887. R.N.60448, W.H.Goss.

The cups and saucers in this collection come from Della's Tea Cup Cafe, 7309 MacArthur Boulevard, Oakland, which was established in February, 1967. The cafe is noted for, and decorated with, a very large collection of tea cups. Some of the cups were purchased by the owner, others were presented to her as gifts, while still others were made for her. This cup and saucer commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria, visible in the large, colored design on the outside of the cup and the inside of the saucer in the form of an eight-point star. Within the gold colored star is a blue wreath which reads "Jubilee of Our Beloved Queen"; in the center of the top of the wreath is a crown of metallic gold, red, with a band at the bottom representing ermine; below that is inscribed "1887". Below that is the large letter "V", centered with a rose, a shamrock and a thistle. A: Cup, has straight sides tapering down to a foot smaller than the rim. Rim is decorated with a fine line of metallic gold. Manufacturer's mark is in black, on the bottom (of both cup and saucer) "R.N.60448, W.H.Gross." Collector's red paper tag on the bottom of the cup reads "345/3145". B:, Saucer, matches cup; rim is decorated with a fine line of metallic gold.
