Raphael Weill & Co., San Francisco. France

The cups and saucers in this collection come from Della's Tea Cup Cafe, 7309 MacArthur Boulevard, Oakland, which was established in February, 1967. The cafe is noted for, and decorated with, a very large collection of tea cups. Some of the cups were purchased by the owner, others were presented to her as gifts, while still others were made for her. A: Cup, with two handles, probably for soup. The bottom of the cup is marked for Raphael Weill & Co., San Francisco; also has the country of manufacture as France. Cup is deeply fluted on the sides and at the lip. Interior is white, exterior is pale yellow. Exterior is decorated with flowers and garlands in heavy metallic gold; the slightly twisted handles (twigs?) are also metallic gold. B: Saucer, matches the cup in materials, color and decoration: fluted with flowers and garlands. Both the cup and saucer have metallic gold rims. The saucer is not marked.
