Coalport

The cups and saucers in this collection come from Della's Tea Cup Cafe, 7309 MacArthur Boulevard, Oakland, which was established in February, 1967. The cafe is noted for, and decorated with, a very large collection of tea cups. Some of the cups were purchased by the owner, others were presented to her as gifts, while still others were made for her. A: Cup, demi-tasse size, straight sides. Interior is white; decoration on the outside consists of a band of blue and white pattern at the top and bottom of the cup, center shows blue birds and blue bamboo on a field of metallic gold. Green manufacturer's mark "Coalport" on the bottom. B: Saucer, matches the cup in materials and decoration. Decoration on the top only, blue and white band at the rim, with birds and bamboo on the metallic gold, then another ring on the blue and white patterned band. Marking on the bottom the same as cup.
