This quilt block was entered in the "School Quilt Block Competition, 1998, co-sponsored by P & B Textiles and the Oakland Museum of California. Students had to incorporate into their quilt block three pieces of P & B textiles (provided to them through the competition kit) which had been developed from 19th century fabrics in the collections of the Oakland Museum of California. An exhibition "Fabrications" was held at the museum from May 16 - July 5, 1998. This quilt block won the 3rd prize for grades k-5. It was made by Sandra Chiu, Mazna Dobashi, Iesha Farrier, Rahwa Ferghi, Mai Huynh, Dejen Kahasay, Thuong Mai, Macarra Miller, Brittney Nared, Lan Nguyen, Nien Nguyen, Glenn Pettis, America Saeed, Karl Truong, Laquaila Turner, Rhonda Woods and Rhonda Worthy, 3rd grade students at Lafayette Elementary School, Oakland, Barbara Anderson, teacher and D. Truong, I.A. The black is a traditional pattern composed of twenty blocks, each of two triangles of different fabric. It is back in pink and white gingham with many pieces of colorful fabrics in the center of the backing.
