In-depth searching with Advanced Search
Advanced Search uses a controlled vocabulary for searching specific fields in the records. If Quick Search returns too many records, try Advanced Search for more specific results. Like the index of a book, Advanced Search can help pinpoint a topic within a large number of records. Enter a term in one of the search boxes and click Search. The more specific your term, the better the results will be. Check out the tips below to help you define your search.

Match:
Use the ANY or ALL option to return records that fit either ANY or ALL of the search criteria.
Want a more general search tool?  Quick Search uses keywords for searching throughout the records.  Try Quick Search to find records broadly related to your search topic.
 Advanced Search Tips

Object: Enter a term that answers the question “What is it?” This searches for types of objects rather than subjects or makers. For example, enter quilt or enter painting or enter carriage.
Made: Enter a term that answers the question “Who made it?” Who made it might be a person, such as an artist, or a manufacturer. For example, enter Ferdinand Richardt (an artist) or enter San Antonio Pioneer Pottery (a manufacturer) or enter pottery to see all the objects made by an Oakland pottery.
Subject: Enter a term that answers the question “What does it depict?” or “Who used it?” The answer might be a place, a building, a person, a business or an organization. For example, enter De Fremery Park or enter Hotel Oakland or enter Marietta Stow or enter Oakland Larks.
Specimen:
Enter a term that answers the question “What is its Latin name?” or “What is its common name?” This searches for natural specimens. For example, enter Limonium californicum or enter marsh rosemary.
Catalog ID: Each object in the collection has a unique number assigned to it. If you know the Catalog ID number of an object from a previous search, enter it here to return directly to that object record.
