 Exhibit Objects
H71.67.1AA Railroad along 3rd Street at Harrison - before most current buildings were built. The empty lot with people on it could be the future site of the Davis & Parker Warehouse (now Tower Lofts).
H74.485.1K Probably before reclaimation of wharf area around Jack London Square.
H26.965 This building is where the 880 Freeway now crosses Broadway.
H74.485.1U Not yet sure where on Second Street this is - building not recognized at the moment.
H71.67.1MM Shows an area where the Posey Portal now stands and building to the side that are where the 880 freeway now passes between 5th and 6th streets.
H71.67.3W The Posey tube passes under Harrison St.
H71.67.1H On the left side you can clearly see (front to back) the Saroni-Sugar-Rice building, then the Wester Pacific Railroad depot (now 288 Third condo), and the American Bag Building. The right shows what must have been the predecessor to the current Portico Lofts. The Egghouse at 3rd and Harrison doesn't seem to be visible.
H26.1542 The Oakland Creek was where the Lake Merritt channel is now located.
H71.67.2YY There was apparently a collision with the Webster Bridge in 1926, so this may have been reconstruction since the bridge was around before then.
H72.131.61G This bridge no longer exists having been replaced by the Webster Tube in ????
H69.410.30B Doesn't show much of the district but the Lake Merritt Channel and now Oak to 9th areas are basically brown fields/mud.
H96.0.56DD View of the waterfront from Alameda side of the Estuary. The long building now know as 66 Franklin, part demolished during the Webster Tube construction is clearly visible. Some other buildings south of that should be identifiable.
H71.67.3O Apparently they floated out the tube before sinking it into place on the bed of the Estuary.
H96.0.56HH Jack London District would be to the top left - once again lots of empty space in an around what is now the Lake Merritt Channel.
H74.485.1RR Illustrating our strong maritime history.
H26.1308 Former location is where the 880 Freeway now passes.
H71.67.1EE In the center of the photo is an L shaped building which is where the Poultry Produces (now "The Egghouse") building is. The empty space on the right is where Portico Lofts now stands - a different taller building was shown in a previous Posey Tube construction photo therefore it must have been demolished in the process.
H71.67.4EE It looks like the 66 Franklin building at Jack London Square is visible in the bottom left photo.
H71.67.1A Looking the other way along the Posey Tube path - the American Bag building would be to your right. The tall building to the left no longer exists - it would be where the Portico Lofts are now located.
H71.67.1DD A view that would now be obstructed by the freeway and Posey Portal - shows the building that predated the Portico Lofts site.
H72.167.2 Grove Street is now named Martin Luther King Jr. Way and the building was located in the vicinity of where the BART tracks now cross MLK. At http://www.oaklandphotojourney.com/pages/timeline.html it states the first hotel was at First and Broadway - it was supposedly built by Horace Carpentier in exchange for the Oakland Waterfront property.
2000.2.101 If this is Broadway then the Hotel sign would be on the location of the current Waterfront Hotel. However it may actually be Franklin Street - the identity of the building on the right will help to determine which it is.
H26.1105 If this is from the foot of Broadway at Embarcadero (then First Street) the building on the bottom right would be where Jack London Inn is now located (House of Chicken and Waffles restaurant)
H97.102.23 The bottom photo probably shows some recognizable historic buildings from the district.
H26.1295 This building is where the freeway now passes through Broadway.
H72.131.58C More of our maritime history.
H72.131.93N The large central building is the 66 Franklin warehouse - now truncated due to construction of the Webster tube. To the right you can see the path of the Posey Tube that is under construction when this photo was taken - the railroad tracks can be see elevated over the Posey tube cut where Harrison Street is.
H75.77.232 The district is in the left of this photo - the path of Oak from the center left and diagonally to the right is clearly visible.
H71.67.1I The building just visible to the left is the Western Pacific Railroad Depot building that stood where 288 Third is now located.
H72.131.89J 1st Street is now Embarcadero - it is assumed these are on the North East side of the street.
H71.67.1FF The building on the bottom left is at the corner of 2nd and Harrison, where Covenant House is now located. Beside it are the Union Hide building - now The Brickhouse. The former Western Pacific Railroad building where 288 3rd is now located can just be seen.
2000.2.100 The Pier 1 Imports store is now home of Hahn's Hibachi restaurant. The metal clad building behind it is now the restored 66 Franklin building.

H71.67.1L Harrison St looking towards downtown before the Posey tube excavation came along and riped it up
H72.131.26A Cochran & Celli are still in business as auto dealers on Broadway. Their old business would have been located on the block between 5th and 6th along Broadway that is now under the freeway.
H72.131.64J If this is looking up Clay Street then to the left is what is now the Cost Plus parking lot, and to the right the Washington St garage.
H75.77.230 Great shot of Jack London Square in 1952. The 66 Franklin building can be seen on the left, where Barnes and Noble now stands is a parking lot.
