Search the Collection with Quick Search
Quick Search uses keywords for searching throughout the records. Enter a keyword in the search box and click Search. The results will be presented in categories showing you where the term was found in the record. Check out the tips below to help you define your search.
    
Looking for something more specific?  Advanced Search uses a controlled vocabulary for searching specific fields in the records.   Try Advanced Search to precisely target your search.
 Quick Search Tips
Tip One:  Target your search to the most important term. For example, enter Shorey rather than “Shorey family photographs”; or enter Mills Gardens rather than “Mills Gardens housing development”; or enter Mission Motel rather than “Mission Motel on Macarthur Blvd.”
Tip Two:  Too many records? Look at the subject field in some of those records to see if there are terms you can use to narrow your search. Or try Advanced Search to target your search to specific interests.
TipThree:  Use the drop down menu next to the search box.

All words means that every word in the search box must be somewhere in the museum record. For example, a search for City Hall park will retrieve only those records containing all three words – city and hall and park.

Any words means that at least one of the words in the search box has to be somewhere in the museum record. This choice broadens a search. For example, a search for City Hall park will get all records with the term city or hall or park.

Exact phrase means that all the words in the search box, in that order, must be in the museum record. This choice narrows a search. For example, a search for City Hall park will get only those records that have the exact phrase City Hall park in them.
Tip Four: Remember. This website only includes museum collection objects about Oakland. Other parts of the museum collections are not yet on the web.
