The Tribune caption, dated May 19, 1940, attached to the back of this two-piece photo reads "This panoramic photo was taken mid-afternoon as the orderly rows of tents began springin up, converting Eastshore Park into a miniature city of youth. It's a serious business for the boys, with all troops and patrols seeking to acquire points to qualify them for attendance at the annual Camporee held in the Fall." The rows and clusters of tents cover almost the entire acreage of the Park. There are also rows and clusters of scouts scattered throughout the Park too. U.S. flags are flying copiously. Automobiles are parked outside at bottom left, near streetcar tracks. Note a slight discrepancy between the spring date--May-- and the caption which places the date in the Fall. JM 11/13/2000
