The Tribune photo, dated July 1, 1937, has the following caption on the back: "WASHINGTON, D. C., July 1--With bombs bursting in air, the 10-day National Jamboree of the Boy Scouts of America wwith nearly 27,000 boys from all parts of the Nation in attendance, opened at this 350-acre tent city in the shadow of the stately Lincold Memorial here yesterday. This photograph looks down the "Avenue of Flags" as officials and scouts stood at stiff attention and saluted. Forty-nine Oakland scouts are attending." IN the foreground, six scout officials have their back to the camera, facing down the mall toward the Lincoln Memorial. Tents, flags,,and scouts line the sides of the mall, off into the distance. A brass band is on the far side of the officials (two of whom are supported by canes). Replicas of fort lookouts are on each side of the Mall past the two rows of tents.
