The Tribune photo, dated September 27, 1987, has the following caption on the back: "Pilot Julie Clark after performing 'aerial ballet." The handwritten notation reads "Julie Clark, one of the 1st female airline pilots is a Northwest Airlines Captain. Here she comes in after performing her aerial ballet." Her left hand grasping a U.S. flag, held against the edge of the plexiglass windshield, Clark is seated in the front cockpit of a United States [painted on the fuselage below her] aircraft.
