Leather thongs, stirrups ans stirrup straps, quarter straps, horsehair cinch present. Dark brown horsehair cinch has imprint of "LFCO 1918" and "P.T." on leather ring. On outsdie of both stirrup hoods, an imprint of "US" for the Cavalry. Four brass rings on saddle for attachments. Metal stud for saddlebag placement on cantle. Used by Lathrop Ellinwood. At age 18, he trekked into Yosemite (c. 1901) with a good firend who was the son of the head of the 6th Cavalry at the Presidio in San Francisco. Although he was not in the Cavalry, Ellinwood and his friend traveled with them to Yosemite and were subject to the same rules. While his travels were in 1901, it is unlikely that this saddle was used as the inspector's mark/date is some 17 years later. (DRHOODE: 6/4/01)

Used: Dr. Lathrop McDowell Ellinwood | Yosemite | Cavalry | Presidio | Horseback riding
