Sather Gate Apparel, Berkeley (label at proper right back shoulder blade)

Hostess gown is reminiscent of Japanese apparel, with a fabric pattern of stylized flowers, rivers, and mountains. The the unshaped bodice lays flat over the shoulders with a wide, obi-like sash. The knitted fabric is 100% nylon, and patterned with burnt orange color over an ecru ground. Gown has a V-shaped neckline in the front and back with center front closure of one hook and eye and five snaps, three of them covered in beige fabric. The bodice gathers into a high waist seam just under the bust in the front. The solid ecru sash is stitched into this same waist seam in the back. Lingerie straps under both shoulder seams.

Sather Gate Appaerl, during the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s was a fashionable ready to wear shop at the northwest corner of Telegraph and Durant in Berkeley.
