Iconic to Ironic: Fashioning California Identity, Mar. 15, 2003 to Sept. 21, 2003

Typed at the bottom of the photo, "Beverly Hills, Calif., Sept. 11--BULLFIGHTER AND DIOR FEATURE SWIM SUIT FASHIONS-- The beverly Hills idea (left) of a bullfighter's costume and a swim suit designed by Christian Dior caught the eyes of photographers at yesterday's showing of 1954 Cole of California swimming and poolside apparel. Marilyn Benedict models the tigher-fitting sharkskin matadore-style outfit for girls who want a bullfighting effect while lying beside a swimming pool. Swimming shorts are underneath. She holds her shoulder cape. You'd never know the bosomy suit at right was designed by Dior. Cole has the American rights to manufacture it. The suit features, as you can see, an emphasized bosom and lowered hip line, giving the torso a lengthened, molded look. Betty Brosmer models. (AP Wirephoto) (jfm70400stf-dab) 54."
