Two men seated in a nondescript room at a table listening and taking notes. From back of photo: ASSOCIATED PRESS PHOTO -- CAUTION: USE CREDIT FROM SAN FRANCISCO -- SCOFF AT SAN QUENTIN FLOGGING PROBE -- Edward P. Murphy (left) and George Olshausen scoffed at the California State Prison Board's investigation of alleged mass whippings at San Quentin Prison, saying "here the Board is charged with misconduct and they're sitting in judgment on themselves." The two were named by Gov. Culbert Olson to assist John Gee Clark, California State Penology Director, in an investigation he plans of the State Prison Board. The two are shown as they took notes at San Quentin Oct. 19 during the Prison Board's investigation. --- Calif non-wire nynegcx1 10/19/39 (stf) Mr. Murphy is on the left of the photo seated at a table. His dark hair is short and above his ears. He is wearing a dark suit, white shirt and dark tie with a light colored pattern of dots/squares. In his right hand he holds a pen and appears ready to take notes on a legal pad. Mr. Olshausen share the table with Mr. Murphy. He is balding, wears rimless glasses, a dark suit with stripes (3 buttons on the sleeve), white shirt and what appears to be a dark tie with light dots. His right forearm rests on the table, a pen is in his hand and he too appears ready to take notes onto a legal pad. His right arm is bent at the elbow (rests on his leg?) and his left fingers touch his jaw.
