Enlargement of section of photo 2005.1.39. Arrows indicating position of Tom and Rena Mooney on roof top and of clock face across and on street. From story pasted on back but folded to front and that covers photograph: "ASSOCIATED PRESS PHOTO, please use credit . FROM SAN FRANCISCO PICTURE HAS ROLE IN MOONEY CASE Taken during the 1916 San Francisco Preparedness Day Parade only a few minutes before the bomb explosion which killed 10 and injured 40, this picture was claimed by the defense to offer an alibi for Tom Mooney, who was convicted of the bombing. It was taken on the roof of a building at 974 Market Street, more than a mile from the scene of the blast, and shows Mooney and his wife (the two figures top right) on the roof watching the parade. It was greatly enlarged for the trial to identify the Mooneys and show the hands of a street clock. Associated Press Photo PREPAREDNESS PICTURE: : FOR USE WITH MOONEY CASE DEVELOPMENTS dr (FX List NY 2 CX 2) 8/29/35." From caption only portion pasted on back: "This photo of clock in San Francisco was used in bomb trial. The ancient clock was moved to Oakland, and now will go to Santa Rita farm. Tr E Oct 23, 1962." The photograph is of Market Street with a formation of marchers in a parade. Crowds are on the left side of the photo, street level, watching the parade. Some buidlings are also visible along the street. In the upper left of the photo a clock face has been superimposed with an arrow "Clock Dial" pointing to the location of the clock on the street. On the right side of the photo are four people watching the parade from roof(s). There are two arrows from left to right pointing at two people. One arrow is labeled "Tom Mooney" and points to a man whose back is to the camera. He is wearing a tweed(?) suit and is leaning over the edge of the roof looking down at the parade. The other arrow labeled "Rena Mooney" is pointed at a woman wearing a dark coat and hat with her left hand shielding her eyes. Her back, also, is to the camera. In the lower right corner of the photo are two people (woman and girl?) also watching the parade from a roof. One is seated on the edge, wears a dark coat/top and a light colored wide brim hat. The other person (girl) leans on the edge, is in a light colored dress and is holding on to her white hat with dark trim.
