There is a long history on the back of this photograph, with conflicting dates and locations, as information came to the writer.

Photograph of an aviator and Bert Lane. Aviator might be Marce Thie. Written in ink of the back: "Just now, 4-21-84, received this pic from Sis - Katie Aldrich, This pic dates approx. [July] 8 or 9 [19]29 (probably near to June 1929 - see pic of Golden Bear Aircraft) is taken at San Francisco Airport called Mills field - I had just soloed Paul Marchitis' in that OX powered Eagle rock. (Sold to Marchiti by Lester Lampkin of Porterville.) Background planes left to R - are Long Wing Eagle rock (first)(version) - next Sparton J6-7-Wright-OX Waco-70- -and OX Eagle. -- Photographer was stationed in front of airport office Bldg. facing eastward. All tail skids - no brakes - grey sky - is fog at airport 2000 ft. Base typical. I(on the right) at that time was chief pilot for Marchiti Motor Co. and Berkeley Steel Construction Co. (Golden Bear Aircraft)."
