White Duck Workshop, Berkeley

This is a long, White Duck Workshop dress with a stylized peony appliqued above the bust, on either side. A larger full peony and leaves are appliqued on the upper back. All appliques are done in natural colored raw silk, machine embroidered in dark green to match the cloth. (On the inside the bobbins used for the embroidery white, blue and gray.) It has a stand-up "Mandarin" style collar in self same fabric which is piped in self same fabric; long, inset sleeves are also piped at the wrist. No fasteners, the long dress slips on over the head. Inez Brooks-Myers, January 29, 2009: Artist Karen Silberman (nee Karen Baxter) said today that this garment is representational of some of the applique work that she did for the White Duck.

It is this style of machine applique and embroidery which is one of the White Duck Workshop's "trademarks."
