Rhodes - inscribed on bottom in clay

Ceramic salad plate with lavender glaze has a rectangular shape with rounded corners. A drawing of a bull in the style of cave paintings from Lascaux, France appears in brown glaze over an oval of blue at center. The bull has long horns and a row of spots on its back. Its tail is lowered and it faces the right side of the plate.

Plates were commissioned when the artist was in residence at Menlo Park, and they were inspired by the imagery of cave paintings in Lascaux, France. The paintings were discovered a few years prior to the date of commission.
