The most common form, se-hhal-lal, of Cohauilla basketry is similar to this specimen. The design represents chain lightning.'" (gray notebook) From the History Information Station "Object: Basket tray made by coiling. Juncus, a rush, was used for the design material. It was collected among the Cahuilla of Southern California, and dates to the late 19th or early 20th century. It was acquired by the Oakland Public Museum in 1928. History: Trays like this one were used in the preparation and serving of food, much in the same way that trays are used today."
