Packet of cards, passes, posters. Description: relating to Red Cross, Democratic Conveniton (Woodrow Wilson), Congress and Calif. governors office and Treasure Island World Fair From the History Information Station: Object: Pass to the gallery of the House of Representatives, March 2, 1925, signed by Albert Johnson, congressman from Washington. History: Members of Congress give these tickets to their constituents. There are a limited number of tickets for each day's session of Congress. Object: Ticket to the Democratic National Convention, San Francisco, June 28, 1920. History: This convention, the first after World War I, held great interest for Californians. One of their own, William McAdoo, who had been a member of President Wilson's Cabinet and was the president's son-in-law, was a leading candidate for the nomination. He was defeated, however by James Cox, who lost in November to Warren G. Harding. The period after the war was a time of great unrest. In California, the Red Scare led to the state's Criminal Syndicalist Law, and Nativist movements gained momentum in their attempts to restrict Japanese and Chinese rights. On the national level, Prohibition became the law of the land, and the country struggled with the problems of being a world power for the first time. Gifts of Mrs. Richmond Hobson
