Object: Watercolor. Rancho de San Luis Gonzaga, Visto del Corral, by F.L. (full name unknown), dated September 20, 1854.
History: The 48,000 acre Rancho San Luís Gonzaga was granted to Juan Perez Pacheco in 1843. It was located in present-day San Benito and Merced counties. The rancho was owned by descendants of the Pacheco family until the mid-1900s, when it was purchased by the federal government and the State of California. The original adobe ranch house stood at a site near Pacheco Pass until 1962, when the area was inundated by the waters of the San Luis Dam.
