From the History Information Station:
Rockingham pottery originated in England in the 1840's, and was soon being made in the United States, where it was quite popular through the 1890's. Rockingham was characterized by a mottled, glossy brown glaze and molded figures and scenes. This teapot depicts a scene from the Biblical story of Rebecca, the most common of all Rockingham designs. Hunting scenes were also popular in the U.S.
