Athens Athletic Club Plaque. Description: highest divisional honors, selective membership campaign, 1928. Silver plate shield, engraved with team names, enamel Athens Club insignia, on wood shield background. History: The Athens Athletic Club was the most important athletic/social club in Oakland for most of the early 20th century. Posh and very well equipped club facilities were situated in the downtown section of Oakland. Although the club still exists today legally, it has no facilities and is a paper organization. The original clubhouse was removed during urban renewal.
