"Russell accompanied Hayden on an exploration of Wyoming in 1868. Ferdinand V. Hayden was an American geologist and explorer. He was one of the first Euro-Americans to explore, in 1871, and report about Yellowstone. The photographer William Henry Jackson and the painter Thomas Moran accompanied Hayden's expedition.
