Remarks: Exhibited: Comstock Silver Case, Cowell Hall of History. From the History Information Station: Object: Warming stand for hot water kettle. Silver and silver plate. History: The kettle sitting next to this stand is meant to sit on top of it. Water in the kettle was kept hot by the flame from the small oil burner sus- pended in the stand. Keeping hot water at the table enabled a hostess to serve the tea and replenish the teapot with only occasional help from her servants, which was key to preserving the (supposedly) informal mood of a tea party.
