Basket bowl. Description: coiled basket bowl, almost triangular profile, possibly Maidu. Design in dyed bracken fern roots; alternating black and light stitches all around rim. good condition: some discoloration; few small breaks, one gouge near bottom. History: collected by father of donor References/Remarks: Probable Maidu, attribution by Lawrence Dawson, Lowie Museum of Anthropology, May 22, 1984. Light sewing element probably split maple shoots. Very fine for a Maidu fancy basket. "Mountain Maidu, maple and bracken fern root. Bottom is woven to right and with different work surface than remainder of basket and regular Maidu leftwork work direction. Made for sale, circa 1905." (Bruce Bernstein and Craig Bates, 7/91)
